Viena levy syntyin kun Kuhmossa toimiva Kalevalaisen ja karjalaisen kulttuurin informatiokeskus Juminkeko järjesti yhtyeelle tutustumismatkan Kalevalan laulumaille, Vienan Karjalaan. Tuolla matkalla yhtye tapasi runonlaulajia ja muita perinteentaitajia.

Finnish ethnomusic group Värttinä concerted in Kuhmo Arts Centre on October, 10th. Concert was part of the celebrations of Juminkeko celebrating its 30th anniversary. At the same concert group celebrated the publiching of their brand new album titled as Viena.
Previous time group visited Kuhmo when they performed at Kuhmo Arts Centre during Sommelo Ethno Music Festival in 2014. Concert held during Sommelo was the only performance that group made in Finland 2014.
At the summer of 2014 Juminkeko, the Information Centre for the Kalevala and Karelian Culture, arranged trip to Viena Karelia for the group. During their trip in Viena Karelia group met runosingers and other tradition whiz people. Trip that group made has strongly influenced their latest Viena themed album and those audience was able to hear those influences in a concert as well.

Konsertin päätteeksi Värttinä luovutti uuden levyn Juminkeko-säätiön
puheenjohtaja Markku Niemiselle.
At the end of the concert Värttinä gave a copy of their new album to Markku Nieminen
who is the chairman of Juminkeko Foundation
